Vanda Care
Location
Place Vandas outside in an area with 50% shade that is lightly breezy. If they are placed in a greenhouse, provide them with 25 to 35% shade and ventilation, if necessary. Indoors, place them near a window that faces the south. The location should allow the leaves to be a nice medium green. If they become too light, place it in a shadier area. If they become too dark, place it in a brighter area.
Vandas can remain outdoors if the wind chill temperatures are above 40°F. Provide them with indirect ventilation and misting or watering if the temperature rises above 90°F.

Watering
Water every day during the hot months, but allow the roots to dry within two hours. No water needed during cloudy or rainy days. During the cooler months, water sparingly. Let the water run through the hose for a few moments to ensure that the water is not excessively hot or cold.
Water Vandas by straying it with a hose for about 30 seconds to a minute. Do not use the jet setting or any strong, direct sprays to avoid damaging the plant. The mist setting does not water the plant sufficiently and should be avoided as well. Vandas can also be watered by placing them in a bucket of water for about five minutes.

Fertilizing
Fertilize with water soluble 20-20-20 once a week for three weeks. During the fourth week, fertilize with 10-30-20.
Mix the solution according to instruction provided by the supplier. Use a sprayer to apply the solution directly on the Vandas or fill the solution in a bucket and allow the plants to sit for five minutes. The excess can be stored and saved for the future applications.
On fertilizer days, avoid watering before and after application. Provide them with indirect ventilation and additional misting only if the temperature rises above 90°F.

Repotting
Vandas do not need to be repotted if they are originally placed in plastic baskets with wires. For your convenience, we only ship Vandas in these plastic baskets.
If the plant gets tall, you can make a hook to lower the plant. If the plant droops to a side, you can use wires to adjust them and provide them with support. If the roots begin to touch the ground, use a cable tie to wrap the roots into a circle.

Flower Size, Color and Fragrance
While the first bloom may not look quite as large as you hoped for, subsequent flowering will produce larger flowers in most Vanda varieties. By the fourth or fifth flowering, you will notice bigger blooms and maybe receive multiple spikes.
When the flower first blooms, the color may appear to be much lighter than you expect. After two or three days, the color will deepen and reflect the true shade.
This same principle applies to fragrance. It usually takes two to three days for the fragrance to appear. If the weather is warm, the fragrance is more easily detected than on cooler days.
